T’puram: A 29-year-old homeopathic doctor from Wayanad went missing after being swept away by strong waves off Vizhinjam coast early on Monday.The missing person was identified as Sreejith, 29, of Valliyoorkkavu, Arattuthara. The incident occurred near Vizhinjam Bollard Pull Test Centre around 4.30am. H N Vijay, 24, a student of Vidyadhiraja Homeopathic Medical College, Nemom, who was also caught in the waves, managed to escape.According to police, Sreejith arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday to attend the wedding of his friend. After the function, he and a group of friends, including junior students from his college hostel, travelled to Vizhinjam coast in a car.Of the eight-member group, one person remained in the vehicle while the others sat on the concrete handrails near the shoreline. Sreejith and Vijay later moved to a lower rocky area behind the test centre.Vijay told police that a powerful wave suddenly struck the rocks, sweeping them into the sea. He said he managed to regain his footing and climb to safety, but Sreejith was nowhere to be seen when he looked around.Following the incident, personnel from Vizhinjam coastal police and marine enforcement launched a search operation in the area. Despite extensive efforts throughout the day, Sreejith could not be traced until Sunday evening.Officials resumed the search on Monday with the assistance of coastal rescue teams; however, he was still not found.According to Vijay, Sreejith completed his BHMS course three months ago and recently began his professional career. Police registered a case and are continuing further investigation.
