Gorakhpur: Governor Anandiben Patel on Monday urged the graduating doctors of AIIMS Gorakhpur to serve the poor and farmers with empathy and never forget the sacrifices made by those who gave up their lands to establish such premier institutions. “Always remember whose sweat built these institutions. When a poor farmer or woman comes to your door, hold their hand and serve them,” she said while addressing the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur. Speaking in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Patel said the inauguration of the first convocation in the presence of the President is a moment of great inspiration. “Institutions stand not only on buildings but on sacrifice and service,” she noted, emphasizing the need for gratitude and service in the medical profession.Lauding the large number of women awardees at the event, Patel called the 21st century the “century of women”. She echoed PM Modi’s vision that national development is not possible without women empowerment.In a lighter moment, she said, “The President has dedicated two full days to Gorakhpur. I wonder what CM Yogi has done to deserve this,” prompting smiles and laughter, including from Murmu herself.Union minister of state for health Anupriya Patel said AIIMS Gorakhpur is fulfilling its vision of providing quality healthcare to eastern Uttar Pradesh.“Under PM Modi, AIIMS institutions have grown from 7 to 23. A healthy India is essential to building a developed India by 2047,” she said, urging the graduating batch to keep national interest at the core of their service.
