Hyderabad: Residents of Telangana can now take charge of their participation in Census 2027, as self-enumeration for the national exercise begins on Sunday, April 26. This marks a notable shift towards a digital approach to household data collection and will be the first Census conducted since the formation of Telangana in 2014.Announcing the rollout on Saturday, director of Census operations, Telangana, Bharati Hollikeri, said the initiative enables citizens to log in to the official portal (https://se.census.gov.in) and submit their details online, moving away from the traditional door-to-door method. The exercise follows a considerable gap since the last Census was conducted in 2011.The self-enumeration window will remain open until May 10, with access available daily from 6 am to midnight. It will cover the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE), including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri municipal corporations, Hollikeri said.Designed for both convenience and accuracy, the digital portal allows households to complete the process in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Users can register using a mobile OTP, pinpoint their residence on a map, and respond to a 33-point questionnaire covering housing conditions, basic amenities, and household assets. The platform supports 16 languages and incorporates secure data handling measures.Once the information is submitted, a unique self-enumeration ID (SE-ID) is generated. Residents will be required to present this ID during the verification phase, which begins on May 11, when enumerators will visit households. Around 80,000 personnel are expected to be deployed for this phase following training.Hollikeri highlighted that no documents are required for self-enumeration, and the form can be completed in multiple sittings. However, she emphasised the importance of accurately marking the residence location, as discrepancies may result in re-enumeration during field verification.She further noted that the data collected during this phase will form the foundation for the second stage of the Census, scheduled for next year, which will capture individual-level details.
