Chennai/Trichy: The DMK headquarters buzzed with action on Monday as large number of assembly election ticket aspirants thronged the place to submit their applications.Municipal administration minister K N Nehru, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and mines minister S Regupathy were among those who submitted applications. One of the reasons for the huge turnout was because the DMK had initially announced March 2 as the last day for filing applications. Though the party extended the deadline until March 6, many stuck to their plans to file applications on Monday. The other reason was that Monday marked Masi Magam, an auspicious day. Anna Arivalayam wore a festive look as supporters of some of the candidates were accompanied by music bands. Apart from ministers, some of the sitting MLAs, including Srirangam MLA M Palaniyandi and Trichy East MLA Inigo Irudayaraj, also submitted their application. Former AIADMK minister R Vaithilingam, who recently joined the DMK, submitted his application for the Orathanad constituency.Interestingly, Regupathy’s son Annamalai also submitted an application for Thirumayam constituency sought by Regupathy. DMK spokesperson Salem Dharanidharan submitted application seeking Salem South constituency. The crowd was so large at Anna Arivalayam that former minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna had to return without submitting the application.
