Chennai: War of words between DMK and CPM intensified on Wednesday after DMK’s official organ `Murasoli once again criticised the Left party for extending support to the TVK govt, prompting a sharp response from CPM, equating DMK with BJP and AIADMK.The latest round of exchanges began with a two-part series in Murasoli criticising CPM. Murasoli article asked whether the Left would support “anyone who merely sends a letter seeking support” and wondered how a Communist party could back the TVK govt without any reservations. The newspaper also referred to articles published in CPM mouthpiece Theekathir before the assembly election that were critical of TVK and its leadership.DMK organ also carried a photograph of CPM state secretary P Shanmugam greeting TVK leader and revenue minister K A Sengottaiyan. It questioned CPM for levelling allegations on Sengottaiyan just before the assembly elections linking him to assault on tribals in Vachathi in 1992.Responding to the criticism, CPM accused DMK of political inconsistency and alleged that DMK was completely different from what it projected itself to be. `BJP + DMK + AIADMK’ said a post on CPM Tamil Nadu unit’s official handle. The post also carried the image of a snake guard with symbols of BJP, DMK and AIADMK drawn on it.CPM also objected to Murasoli’s criticism of its opposition to the proposal for a separate tribunal on the Mekedatu issue.Shanmugam said the confusion over the tribunal proposal started from the previous DMK govt, pointing out that the then chief minister M K Stalin had written to the Centre on March 4 seeking the constitution of a separate tribunal to address the Mekedatu dispute without any discussion. The exchange also drew BJP into the debate. BJP state treasurer S R Sekhar criticised CPM’s remarks linking BJP with DMK and AIADMK. He said BJP remained consistent in its ideological positions. “Unlike CPM, we do not alter our stand according to political circumstances. We will continue to adhere to our ideology and seek electoral success through political work,” he said.
