MADURAI: TVK president Vijay alleged that the ‘real Congress’ was with TVK, though DMK had managed to retain the ‘Tamil Nadu Congress’ in its alliance ‘using money power’. “Stalin sir spent a few crores and kept with himself the Tamil Nadu Congress. But the real Congress was with us,” Vijay said during his election rally in Tirunelveli on Wednesday. Launching a multi-pronged attack on DMK, Vijay said the party was deceiving the minorities all these years, but the facade has been exposed now. He then charged that DMK front as well as the AIADMK – BJP alliance was in disarray. “They would suffer defeat because cadres of alliance parties would not vote for candidates of allies,” he said. Vijay said that though DMK alliance and BJP alliance appear to be rivals, they share a common agenda of keeping him away from politics and preventing him from serving the people. “They are very angry with me because they couldn’t achieve what they wanted and could not indulge in corruption after my arrival in politics,” he said. “You (people) have created a situation where they cannot return to power as you have shattered their alliance and electoral arithmetic. The main reason for their anger towards me is because the whistle (TVK symbol) is heard loud even within their houses and families,” he said. The other reason for their anger is because of the ‘real Congress’ support to TVK. “They (DMK and BJP) are also angry with me as they feel that Vijay has become the true face of secularism and that the minority people also stand with Vijay,” he said. Vijay said people of TN ‘long’ for more leaders like K Kamaraj, C N Annadurai and M G Ramachandran. Referring to the Karur stampede CBI probe, Jana Nayagan movie release, curbs on election rallies and ‘malicious personal attacks’, Vijay said he was facing several hurdles from his opponents. He has entered politics giving up his comforts for the sake of the people, Vijay said. “Only I know the struggle I went through to enter every house and heart for the past 33 years. This is a bond between us that has continued through several lives. This might be an election for others but it is an emotion for us,” said Vijay. Vijay later participated in a 3km road show in Tuticorin. During his campaign in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, scores of TVK cadres followed his vehicle, resulting in accidents and injuries to a few.
