Coimbatore: Former state BJP president K Annamalai on Wednesday accused DMK of attempting to buy votes by distributing Rs8,000 coupons, and termed it a major scam.Campaigning for Kinathukadavu AIADMK candidate S Damodaran at Vellalore and for Singanallur AIADMK candidate K R Jayaram at Avarampalayam, Annamalai said DMK’s Coimbatore South candidate V Senthilbalaji had set up sheds in the city to house voters and distribute gifts. “With only a few days left before polling, DMK will try to buy votes through gifts and money,” he said and urged people not to be misled by such tactics, which he said were meant to deceive voters and steal votes. He also claimed that DMK and Congress were not on good terms and said the Congress leaders visiting Coimbatore were not even campaigning for their own candidates. He said Rahul Gandhi was planning to weaken DMK in the state. Annamalai said DMK govt had turned Tamil Nadu into a “ganja capital” and that important figures in the ruling party were linked to international drug trafficking. “An Anti-Ganja Task Force will be set up in the state within 100 days of Edappadi K Palaniswami assuming office as chief minister.” He said law and order had worsened significantly in the state over the past five years. Tamil Nadu ranks high in Pocso cases and crimes against women,” he said. Referring to the development work taken up by BJP, he highlighted the revival of Podanur railway station. Speaking about the long-pending complaints of Vellalore residents over the local dump yard, Annamalai blamed administrative failure for the daily dumping of 1,500 tonnes of waste and said a permanent solution would be possible only under an AIADMK-led govt.
