On Wednesday, the deadline for withdrawing nomination forms for the 2026 Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, 22 nomination forms were withdrawn from various wards in the city. BJP candidates were declared elected unopposed to the seats reserved for women in Thaltej and Vasna wards.In the 2021 elections, a candidate from Congress withdrew her nomination for a seat reserved for women in the Naranpura ward, leading to a BJP candidate winning unopposed. As for this election, in the Thaltej ward, Congress candidate Ramila Thakor withdrew her nomination for the seat reserved for OBC women, on Wednesday, leading to BJP candidate Rita Thakor being declared the winner. In Vasna ward, no Congress candidate filed for the seat reserved for OBC women, and BJP’s Bhagwati Bharwad was declared elected. Additionally, both male Congress candidates withdrew their nominations in the Sarkhej ward. After Congress candidate Bharat Bharwad withdrew his nomination on Tuesday, another Congress candidate, Waris Saiyed, withdrew on Wednesday. Furthermore, Chandlodia candidate Pradeep Patel, who posted a video citing threats to withdraw his nomination, pulled back from the contest on Wednesday. Although Congress candidates withdrew their nominations in the Sarkhej and Chandlodia wards, other candidates are in the fray, so the elections will be held. An AIMIM candidate withdrew from the Khadia ward, and two AIMIM candidates withdrew from Danilimda.
