Ghaziabad: Commuters on the Gyani Border-Mohan Nagar stretch could get relief from ongoing roadwork within 15 days. District magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar, during an inspection of ongoing Public Works Department (PWD) projects, directed officials to complete the remaining bituminous work on priority. The DM also directed officials to ensure the CC road beneath Shahid Nagar metro station is developed to its full sanctioned width and that the remaining work there is completed within the 15-day period.Gyani Border is a crucial gateway between Delhi and Ghaziabad, linking the capital’s Dilshad Garden and Shahdara with Sahibabad, Shalimar Garden and other parts of the trans-Hindon region. The old GT Road corridor sees heavy traffic and is also closely connected to the Red Line metro stations serving commuters along the route.Mandar visited the spot to inspect widening, strengthening and divider work on the Delhi-Kanpur Road (old GT Road) and stressed to officials that the work should meet prescribed quality standards and be completed without unnecessary delay.According to the DM, the presence of electricity poles and municipal corporation overhead signage boards is a major issue holding up the widening work. “The concerned departments have been given 10 days to clear these obstructions, allowing the road work to move ahead without further disruption,” Mandar said.He inspected special repair work underway at the Gyani Border-Mohan Nagar stretch. The stretch is crucial for commuters using Shyam Park metro station, which serves residents of Shyam Park, Rajendra Nagar, Sahibabad and nearby areas. It’s also used by commuters travelling between Gyani Border, Delhi and Mohan Nagar. At Shyam Park metro station, work on the CC road under the station is yet to begin. Mandar asked officials to get the work started immediately. The DM also visited the CC road under Shahid Nagar metro station, another busy point on the Delhi-Ghaziabad corridor. The station is used by commuters from Shahid Nagar, Sahibabad and nearby residential and industrial areas. Here, the DM said work has been completed for a 330m-long and 9m-wide stretch on the right side, while work on a 300m-long and 5m-wide portion remains in progress. “The remaining work now needs to bring the road up to its full sanctioned width, followed by the pending bituminous work. Both are to be completed within 15 days, with emphasis on constructing a durable, good-quality road for commuters,” the official said.PWD executive engineer Ramraja told TOI that road widening work had come to a halt in several areas. “When we start digging up the road we find lot of utility wires underneath including water pipeline, telecommunication wires, electric poles and drains. These had been holding up the construction project. Now, we will speed up the process,” he said.
