Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Monday directed the district officials to immediately begin a survey of areas where crops were damaged by the recent storm, rains and hailstorm.He said all lekhpals must carry out a detailed assessment of crop damage, both plot-wise and area-wise, within their jurisdictions. He also directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to regularly monitor the survey work being done by the lekhpals and ensure the assessment is completed in a time-bound manner. The DM directed that the prepared assessment report be sent to the govt expeditiously so compensation could be provided to affected farmers in a timely manner. He said no negligence would be tolerated and all officials concerned must complete the task on a priority basis so that affected farmers could receive prompt relief. To assess damage to crops caused by unseasonal rains, Singh conducted an on-the-spot inspection of fields in Sachedi and Sona villages in Sadar Tehsil. He inspected the plot-wise status of crop damage and interacted with affected farmers to ascertain the actual extent of the loss.During the inspection, he heard farmers’ grievances and sought information on the impact of unseasonal rains on their crops. Farmers said standing crops in several areas were adversely affected due to the rainfall. Meanwhile, for the Kanpur division, the IMD has predicted increased cloud movement with intermittent sunshine. Day temperatures are expected to fluctuate, while night temperatures may rise slightly due to cloud cover. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 50 kmph from evening through the night. Kanpur recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4°C, which is 3.8°C below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 15.6°C, also below norm
