Varanasi: District magistrate Satyendra Kumar, who is also the district election officer, held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of political parties and electoral registration officers regarding revision of electoral rolls and polling stations of the assembly constituencies.Suggestions of representatives were taken and the EROs were given necessary directives. Kumar said voters of the same family should not be divided under any circumstance. All SDMs/EROs should inspect the polling stations of their assembly constituencies and conduct physical verification to ensure basic facilities are available at all polling stations. They were also directed to finalise list of polling stations only after closely examining suggestions and objections received from political parties and general public as per the rules. He said that as per directions of the EC, polling stations having more than 1,200 voters will be split as per rules. He said if any recognized political party had any suggestions, objections, or proposals regarding polling stations, they should provide it in writing to the District Election Office by Jul 3 evening, so that the electoral registration officer concerned may examine it as per rules and take necessary action. Draft publication of the list of polling stations will be done on Jul 4 and its copy will be made available to all recognised political parties.
