Gumla: Members of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Gumla, on Sunday met the family of a girl who died during treatment at a Ranchi hospital on Saturday after she was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted.The DLSA team, led by its secretary, assured the family of free legal aid and support through the judicial and administrative process. The visit was made following directions from Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, executive chairperson of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JLSA), and under the guidance of principal district and sessions judge and DLSA chairperson Ajit Kumar Singh.Officials said the team assessed the family’s condition and, with the help of the district administration, provided 50 kg of grain as immediate relief. Paralegal volunteers were asked to remain in regular touch with the family and help them access legal aid and welfare schemes.DLSA has appointed panel advocate Sudhir Kumar Pandey to provide free legal assistance to the family. Jayasena Gupta has been appointed as a support person to help the family with its needs, coordinate with departments and connect them with relevant services.DLSA officials said the process to provide compensation to the family, as per applicable rules, has been initiated. The family will be helped in arranging documents and completing formalities.The authority also said it would coordinate with the district administration and departments concerned to ensure the family receives benefits under eligible govt schemes. DLSA assured the family that it could approach the authority for any legal difficulty or assistance.
