Gurgaon: Amid complaints over snarls at ongoing construction sites along NH8, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has defended the traffic management and safety arrangements.The authority said traffic management is being carried out in close coordination with the district administration and traffic police. While deployment of police personnel falls within the jurisdiction of the traffic police, the contractor has stationed traffic marshals at Bilaspur and Manesar to regulate vehicular movement.NHAI also set deadlines for the ongoing projects in Bilaspur, Kapriwas and Manesar.Rejecting allegations of inadequate traffic management, NHAI said the contractor has implemented approved diversion plans and installed all mandatory traffic safety infrastructure, including barricades, lane markings, reflectors, blinkers, signboards and other traffic control devices.Providing an update on project timelines, NHAI said the Bilaspur flyover is progressing satisfactorily and is likely to be completed by Oct, subject to site and weather conditions.The Manesar elevated corridor is targeted for completion by May 31, 2027, although its contractual completion date is Sept 21, 2027.In a detailed reply to a representation submitted by residents, who had sought intervention over traffic bottlenecks and alleged safety lapses in the above-mentioned areas, NHAI asserted that all prescribed measures are being implemented in accordance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) guidelines.Dharuhera resident Parkash Yadav told TOI the response comes at a time when commuters have repeatedly flagged long traffic snarls and hazardous driving conditions on the busy Delhi-Jaipur corridor, where multiple infrastructure projects are currently under execution between Km 42.700 and Km 107.100 in Haryana.The authority said the projects are under the continuous supervision of NHAI officials and the authority engineer, with regular inspections being conducted at all major construction locations.At Bilaspur, a four-lane diversion has been constructed and approved by the authority engineer to facilitate smoother traffic movement, while at Manesar, traffic has already been shifted to a newly constructed three-lane cement concrete diversion road to enable execution of the elevated corridor works.It added that any deficiencies noticed during inspections are immediately communicated to the contractor for rectification.The authority also said contractors have been instructed to undertake priority repairs of diversion roads, including pothole filling and patchwork, wherever required, while assuring commuters that the inconvenience is temporary and expected to reduce significantly once the projects are completed.
