Thiruvananthapuram: A district planning committee meeting was convened on Saturday to approve the 2026-27 annual plans of local bodies in the district. The meeting was held in the collectorate conference hall under the chairmanship of V Priyadarshini, chairperson of district planning committee and district panchayat president.The meeting approved the annual plans of eight local govt institutions, including seven village panchayats and one block panchayat in the district. The district panchayat president emphasised that all necessary interventions should be made to complete the projects on time. It was decided to provide the new panchayat committee members with necessary awareness to effectively manage human-wildlife conflicts. The meeting assessed that the presence of wild boars in urban areas was serious, and controlling their spread was essential since shooting in densely populated areas was challenging. It was also decided to instruct shooters to kill wild boars immediately upon sight. The meeting was attended by district collector Anu Kumari, who was also the member secretary of the district planning committee, district planning officer Praveen P, heads and secretaries of local govt institutions, the district forest officer and district-level officials.
