Ranchi: Khunti and Ramgarh police have received new patrol vehicles under the second phase of state govt’s vehicle modernisation drive, aimed at improving patrolling, emergency response and law and order management, particularly in remote and sensitive areas.Khunti police received 14 SUVs and 12 motorcycles. SP Rishabh Garg and other officers flagged off the vehicles from the district police office on Monday. Garg said the vehicles would be allotted to police stations to improve patrolling in far-flung areas. The district is expected to receive 18 more motorcycles shortly.Ramgarh police received 20 four-wheelers from police headquarters on Monday. The district had been allotted 13 patrol vehicles and 19 motorcycles in the first phase. SP Mukesh Lunayat said the new fleet would strengthen regular patrolling, anti-crime checks, surveillance in sensitive areas and response to Dial 112 calls. “Increased police visibility and quicker emergency assistance would also help improve crime control and public confidence,” he added.Simdega SP Shrikant S Khotre said the additional vehicles would strengthen operations against interstate criminal networks and improve emergency response. He said newly inducted vehicles had helped police save five road accident victims in recent days.Police headquarters said 627 SUVs and 847 motorcycles would be distributed among districts in the second phase.The first phase was launched by chief minister Hemant Soren on March 13, when 636 SUVs and 849 motorcycles were flagged off from the state assembly premises. Ranchi received the highest allocation — 88 four-wheelers and 73 motorcycles — followed by East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Dhanbad.(With inputs from N K Agarwal in Ramgarh)
