Krishnanagar (Nadia): A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan died by suicide in the washroom of Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital on Thursday evening, reportedly distraught over his father’s recent death.Arun Mukherjee, a resident of Bazarpara in Raghunathganj stationed with a BSF battalion in Krishnanagar, had returned home four days ago following his father’s death. His family said he was struggling with severe depression and physical illness.Concerned by his deteriorating state, the family admitted him to the hospital on Thursday morning.That evening, Mukherjee asked his sister, Tumpa Das, for her scarf (orna). Despite her initial reluctance, he took it and went to the hospital washroom.When he did not emerge after a considerable time, his sister grew suspicious and knocked on the door. Receiving no response, she raised an alarm.Hospital staff and bystanders broke open the door. Mukherjee was found hanging inside and declared dead by doctors.Police were informed and the body was sent for post-mortem.
