CHENNAI: Actor Trisha Krishnan on Monday strongly criticised the “distasteful and inappropriate” remarks made by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, after his comments sparked a controversy. Krishnan took to social media to share a legal communique issued through her counsel on February 15, responding to Nagenthran’s remarks that linked her to actor-politician Vijay. The statement, without naming anyone directly, underscored that she has always maintained a strictly neutral political stance and is not affiliated with any political party. Her legal team said the actor never expected such comments from “a person holding a high stature in Tamil Nadu’s political space.” Nagenthran is also an MLA representing the Tirunelveli Assembly constituency. The communique reiterated that Krishnan has consistently stayed apolitical and wishes to be recognised solely for her work in cinema rather than any alleged political association. It urged individuals in public office to exercise responsibility and restraint, adding that personal lives should not be dragged into public discourse. The row began after Nagenthran, while speaking about Vijay’s political entry and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), made a personal reference to Krishnan. The remarks were widely circulated on social media, drawing criticism. Sharing the legal notice on Instagram, Krishnan wrote, “Disrespect should and always will be called out,” and requested that her name not be drawn into matters unrelated to her. Nagenthran’s comments triggered reactions from several quarters, including DMK deputy general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi, who condemned the remarks. Earlier in the day, speaking to reporters in Madurai, Nagenthran said he had not intended to hurt anyone. Vijay and Trisha Krishnan have previously worked together in multiple Tamil films, including the blockbuster Ghilli.
