Kolkata: City cops investigating the death of 66-year-old film-maker Anik Dutta are now certain it was a case of death by suicide. The sleuths have cited several findings — from the postmortem report, witness accounts and the recovery of a note and slippers on the roof from which Dutta fell — to arrive at the conclusion.Dutta had died after a fall from the roof of a six-storey residential building at Hindustan Park on Wednesday.Cops said they found a pair of leather sandals on the parapet on the eastern side and a cinematography magazine at the spot. An officer said CCTV footage shows that on reaching the address, Dutta directly went to the roof, without attempting to meet his wife.“These are theories for which we are collecting corroborative evidence with help from forensic experts,” said an officer. The note addressed to his daughter also spoke of seeking apology from a few friends and acquaintances. The postmortem report shows multiple injuries that corroborate a fall from height. Injuries included multiple fractures and ruptures, said officers probing the incident. While cops will be speaking to family members once the last rites are completed, they have collected CCTV footage that can establish Dutta’s movements from his Dover Lane residence to the Hindustan Park address.
