Silchar: The hills, lakes and valleys of Dima Hasao are set to turn into a cultural corridor from July 10 as the district hosts the Dima Hasao Ethnic Fest 2026 across four scenic tourist destinations to celebrate its indigenous traditions and promote tourism.Organised by the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), the festival will run till Aug 1 and showcase the hill district’s ethnic diversity through music, dance, cuisine, crafts and community-led activities.Announcing the programme, DHAC tourism chairperson Joshringdao Phonglo said the festival aims to promote Dima Hasao as a major cultural and eco-tourism destination.The festival will open at Haflong Lake on July 10 and 11, followed by events at the I Love Dima Hasao viewpoint in Jatinga on July 17 and 18. The third leg will be held at the golf course in Umrangso on July 24 and 25. The concluding event will take place at Hayam, the Jatinga festival area, from July 31 to Aug 1.The celebrations will feature traditional music and dance, indigenous cuisine, handicraft exhibitions, cultural displays and activities, reflecting the traditions of Dima Hasao’s indigenous communities.The festival will also provide a platform for local artisans, performers, self-help groups and entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products and skills.According to the DHAC tourism department, the event is expected to draw visitors from across Assam and other parts of the country, boosting the local tourism sector and economy. Officials said the initiative seeks to preserve the district’s cultural traditions while encouraging community participation in tourism-related activities.With its mix of cultural showcases, scenic venues and local hospitality, the Dima Hasao Ethnic Fest is being positioned as one of the district’s flagship tourism events, offering visitors an immersive experience of the diversity of one of Assam’s hill districts.
