Dibrugarh: Asomiya Yuba Mancha (AYM) members staged a symbolic protest in Sivasagar on Thursday over rising fuel prices. To highlight the burden of higher petrol and diesel rates, protesters pushed a car through key roads without starting the engine, drawing crowds of onlookers. They raised slogans against the Centre and the state govt, demanding an immediate rollback of the latest hike. AYM said petrol and diesel prices increased by about Rs 7.5 amid the escalating West Asia conflict.AYM general secretary Akash Saikia said the group chose the unusual demonstration to underline public hardship.“We pushed this car today to show the govt what common people are facing. Every single day, people are struggling to refill their vehicles’ fuel tanks. Transport fares have gone up, prices of essential goods have risen, and the common man is being crushed under this burden. We demand that the govt immediately roll back the hiked prices of petrol and diesel,” Saikia added. After the march, AYM warned it would intensify its agitation and launch more protests if fuel prices are not reduced.
