Dibrugarh: Tulika Chutia, a researcher at Dibrugarh University, has won a best paper award at an international conference held at IIT-Patna.Chutia, a PhD scholar at Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology (DUIET), received the award in the Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) track at the International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Sustainable Technologies (ICST 2026).She is mentored by Dr Nomi Baruah, associate professor and head of DUIET’s department of computer science and engineering. The conference brought together researchers and academicians from across the country to present work in computing and sustainable technologies.Chutia’s paper, titled “Text-Based Assamese Emotion Recognition using Transformer Model,” explores the use of transformer-based artificial intelligence architectures to improve NLP capabilities for Assamese. The research seeks to address the lack of NLP resources for regional languages by demonstrating how deep-learning techniques can detect and classify emotions expressed in Assamese text. It is expected to contribute to research on regional-language technology and AI-driven linguistic analysis in India.Dibrugarh University on Monday congratulated Chutia and Baruah on the achievement, calling it a proud moment for the institution and its research community.
