Gurgaon: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) is setting up a 24×7 central control room at its headquarters to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during peak summer and enable faster resolution of breakdowns. The facility will monitor real-time electricity supply, track tripping and feeder-level outages, and maintain complete records of power cuts and restoration.Managing director of DHBVN Vikram Singh on Thursday issued guidelines for monitoring and controlling power supply in view of the summer season and potential heatwave. Superintending engineer of system operation, Hisar, has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee the entire system.“This control room will monitor supply status, tripping, and breakdowns at the feeder level and will maintain a complete record of outages and restoration,” spokesperson Sanjay Chugh said.As temperatures continue to rise, outages and supply disruptions increase. Although the discom claims there is no power shortage, residents face regular outages during the summer. In Gurgaon, outages sometimes last for several hours, with residents of newer sectors facing more problems due to poor power infrastructure.Special focus will be on feeders this summer. DHBVN has directed that poorly performing feeders be identified every month. This will include 11 kV feeders with 20 or more breakdowns in a month, while 33 kV feeders with 5 or more breakdowns will undergo a special review.Currently, Gurgaon’s peak power consumption is 3,300 MW. According to a discom official, the city’s power demand is growing at 6–7% annually. An official said priority will be given to essential services during the shortage in supply. Directives have been issued to give top priority to hospitals, water supply schemes, and other essential services in the power supply. Advanced maintenance of sensitive feeders, transformers, and substations has also been ensured.Dynamic load management will be implemented during peak demand, and load shedding will be carried out as per regulations if necessary. Directives have been issued to keep adequate stock and rapid response teams deployed to deal with emergencies.Chugh said the system will be developed to inform people in advance about the outages. “The directions were issued to provide advance information about power cuts to consumers through SMS, WhatsApp, and social media. Additionally, emphasis has been placed on swift grievance redressal by deploying officials in the control room,” said Chugh.
