New Delhi, July 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country.
In a letter addressed to students, Pradhan said he had remained committed to students, teachers and education reforms for more than four decades. He also said the NEET-UG 2026 examination was conducted smoothly after the government took steps following irregularities reported in the examination.
Pradhan said the investigation was handed over to the CBI, the examination was cancelled and a fresh date was announced. He said the government also decided to conduct the examination in computer-based test (CBT) mode from the following year.
He said the NEET-UG examination for more than 20 lakh students was completed on June 21, 2026, with the cooperation of state governments, district administrations, students and parents.
The minister said the results announced on July 16 were satisfactory, with several students from poor backgrounds also securing success.
“I have always had unwavering faith in the strength of our democracy and have deeply respected the aspirations, dreams and expectations of the youth,” Pradhan said.
The resignation comes amid protests and demands for accountability over irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET-UG. Recent reports had said the resignation of Pradhan remained a key demand of the protesting students.
