TIRUPUR: Police have registered a case against AIADMK candidate K Bhanumathi and eight party functionaries following a complaint alleging that the car of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate P Sathyabama was intercepted and damaged after she filed her nomination papers for the Oct 6 Dharapuram byelection.Besides Bhanumathi, Dharapuram police booked former ministers Pollachi V Jayaraman and Dindigul C Sreenivasan, and party functionaries Senthilkumar, Rajendran, Deepa, Gomathi, Rani and Muthumani. Police have invoked 10 sections, including provisions relating to insulting a woman, damaging private property and acts allegedly intended to provoke violence or rioting.The complaint was lodged by Gayathri, treasurer of the TVK’s 18th ward in Dharapuram, on Thursday. She alleged that AIADMK functionaries, who had come to file nominations, stopped Sathyabama’s car while she was returning from the nomination centre.According to the complaint, the AIADMK functionaries damaged the vehicle and used abusive and derogatory language against the TVK candidate. It alleged that their actions were aimed at provoking clashes between AIADMK and TVK supporters.
