Chandrapur: Bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty within the Congress in Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC), Nagpur divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari recognised Surendra Adbale as the party’s official group leader, cancelling the earlier appointment of Rajesh Adur. The decision marks a significant victory for the faction led by Congress MP Pratibha Dhanorkar and effectively settles the leadership dispute at the administrative level.Congress had secured 27 seats in the CMC elections. On Feb 6, the newly elected corporators chose Rajesh Adur as group leader after registering Congress municipal group. The move was challenged before Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court by Adur and his supporters, who are aligned with Congress functionary Vijay Wadettiwar. The HC set aside the June 17 order and directed the divisional commissioner to hear both sides afresh. Adbale’s supporters countered he had the backing of the majority. During the hearings, 15 corporators confirmed the authenticity of their signatures on the resolution. In her final order, Bidari directed that Adbale be officially recorded as Cong’s group leader.
