Dhanbad: Protests erupted across colleges and universities in Dhanbad on Wednesday as members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and AJSU Chhatra Sangh opposed the implementation of the clustering and restructuring in higher education institutes of the state.

Protests were staged at Binod Bihari Mahato Koylanchal University (BBMKU), P K Roy Memorial College and others. Students alleged that the newly proposed system would severely affect the higher education structure in the state.

Protesters claimed that under the cluster system, students may be forced to move between different colleges for subjects and classes, increasing transportation expenses and creating academic inconvenience.

BBMKU vice-chancellor Ram Kumar Singh said a special seminar would be organised in Ranchi on May 21 and 22 involving vice-chancellors, registrars, senior officials and college principals from across the state to better understand and discuss implementation of the cluster system.
