Dhanbad: Dhanbad police on Wednesday launched a drive against public loitering and unlawful gatherings, detaining 52 individuals from different police station areas to strengthen law and order and curb potential criminal activities.SSP Prabhat Kumar said, “Public drinking and unnecessary gatherings increase the risk of crime and pose a serious threat to public order,” while urging citizens to cooperate with police and report suspicious activities by dialling 112.

The primary focus of the drive was to check unlawful gatherings, public consumption of alcohol, and suspicious movements in sensitive areas. Police teams, led by station in-charges, carried out intensive checks in deserted spots, around schools and colleges, playgrounds, roadside stretches, market back lanes, and other vulnerable locations.Groups of individuals found sitting without valid reasons were questioned. Those who failed to provide satisfactory explanations were taken into custody for verification. Action was also initiated against persons found consuming alcohol in public places. Such gatherings often lead to cases of snatching, assault, harassment, and other criminal activities.A vehicle-checking campaign was conducted across the district. Barricades were set up at major intersections, sensitive routes, and entry and exit points of the city. Drivers’ documents were verified and identities cross-checked, while suspicious individuals were questioned.
