Dhanbad: Six persons have been arrested and a juvenile detained on charges of obtaining SIM cards in the name of poor, unsuspecting villagers to facilitate cyber fraud across the country, SP (Rural) Mohammad Yakub said on SaturdayThe office of additional director general, Telecommunications, Bihar LSA, flagged 166 suspicious SIM cards issued through mobile corner POS shop under the Baliyapur police station limits between January 1 and May 29. Of these, 57 were linked to cyber fraud complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.A team led by Sindri SDPO found indications of SIM trading and cyber fraud involving residents of villages bordering Sheetalpur and Baliyapur under the Kalubathan outpost, besides Mayranwatand in East Tundi.Police raided Mobile Corner at Baliyapur Chowk and arrested owner Kaju De and salesman Gaurav Kumar Gupta. A juvenile was detained. Interrogation led to the arrests of alleged kingpins Krishna Kumar Das and Chiranjit Kumar De, with associates Govind Bauri, and Madhusudan Bauri.Police said documents and materials linked to cyber fraud were recovered. Complaints involving more than Rs 60 lakh have been linked to six SIM cards, while the gang may have defrauded people of crores.Yakub urged people not to hand over SIM cards or bank accounts for money, warning subscribers could face criminal action. A case has been lodged under the BNS, IT Act and Telecommunications Act; police are probing wider links and finances.
