Dhanbad: Two days after an inferno raged through a ‘residential’ building in Lucknow, killing 15 people, the Dhanbad administration on Wednesday intensified its scrutiny of coaching centres and educational establishments across the district.Acting on the directives of deputy commissioner, a multi-departmental team led by sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Lokesh Barange conducted safety audits at several institutions located in City Centre and Saraidhela on Wednesday.Officials found deficiencies in safety arrangements at three institutions and issued notices to the owners to rectify the shortcomings within ten days. The administration has warned that strict action will be initiated against institutions that fail to comply with prescribed safety norms within the stipulated period.Educational institutions must maintain adequate fire-fighting equipment, clearly marked emergency exits, and other safety infrastructure to prevent any untoward incidents, a team member said.SDM Lokesh Barange said, “Many institutions and coaching centres were inspected during the drive. Those found deficient have been instructed to immediately undertake corrective measures and ensure full compliance with safety regulations.“Inspections of coaching centres, schools and other educational institutions will continue in a phased manner across the district. Institutions violating safety norms or ignoring directives will face action as per the provisions of the law, an official said.The inspection was carried out by a multi-departmental team comprising officials from the Fire Services Department, Electricity Department, Disaster Management Department and the district administration. The team reviewed fire safety measures, building construction standards, emergency evacuation plans, electrical safety systems and other essential arrangements aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff.
