Rajkot: A 27-year-old businessman has filed a complaint against his accountant at C Division police station in Jamnagar, alleging that the accused divulged his firm’s GST login credentials to a now-deceased accomplice — who created fake e-way bills — leaving the firm with a tax liability of Rs 37.86 lakh. According to the FIR, Hiren Hirpara started an e-commerce venture in 2021 to sell kitchenware online and obtained a GST registration for the business. He later appointed Jaysukh Vora as accountant. Police said Vora worked for around six months before stopping his services. As the business was inactive, Hirpara was required to file nil GST returns. However, instead of ensuring the filings, Vora allegedly shared the firm’s GST login ID and password with his acquaintance, Amitsingh Man, a resident of Defence Colony in Jamnagar. The FIR notes that Man is dead.Investigations revealed that Man allegedly used the credentials to generate fake e-way bills worth Rs 20.33 lakh. These bills were reportedly used in the name of a local transport firm to show movement of goods that never took place. The fraud surfaced in May 2025 when Hirpara received a notice from the GST department demanding Rs 37.86 lakh, including penalties for discrepancies linked to the bogus transactions. When Hirpara approached the transport firm, its branch manager said the consignments were shown as sent to Delhi, but records were not available as the transactions were many years old. Police registered a case against Jaysukh Vora and Amitsingh Man under Section 316(4) of the BNS.
