KRISHNAGIRI: A detailed project report (DPR) for a railway line between Tirupattur and Hosur has been prepared and submitted to the Centre. As per the DPR, the Tirupattur -Hosur line will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore.A Southern Railway official said new tracks would to be laid for a distance of 109.24 km. “The tracks will be laid with state-of-the-art technology. Infrastructure facilities have been planned to ensure that trains can travel at a speed of 130 kmph on the route,” the official said.The line would go via Kandili, Bargur, Krishnagiri, Polupalli, Chinnar and Shoolagiri. New railway stations would be built at these six places.Around 64.435 acres of land will be acquired in Tirupattur district while 335.69 acres will be acquired in Krishnagiri district for the project.“Work on the new railway line and the construction of railway stations will begin once funds are allocated,” he said.Recently, a consultative meeting was held in Krishnagiri which was attended by officials from the Railways and Tamil Nadu govt, industrialists, traders and others.The demand for train services between Tirupattur and Hosur arose as industries in the Hosur area increased employment and business opportunities for people in Tirupattur, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.Officials recalled that in 1905 a narrow gauge railway line was laid for 42 km from Tirupattur to Krishnagiri via Bargur. There were train services on the route which were stopped more than 80 years ago during World War II when various railway lines across the country were closed. They said the Tirupattur-Krishnagiri route was closed in 1942.
