Gurgaon: With the monsoon approaching, residents of Sector 21 fear that the colony could face severe waterlogging if the desilting of a key stormwater drain — which is facing delays — is not completed immediately. Despite repeatedly flagging the issue with GMDA officials over the past six months, no work has begun on the ground.Residents said around 800 metres of the main drain — from Shalapur T-point to the Sector 21 market — has not been desilted, raising apprehensions that rainwater may accumulate on roads and disrupt movement across a nearly 2.5-km stretch serving around 1,650 plotted houses. “It is time for action to replace assurances,” RWA president Prakash Lamba told TOI.Besides drain cleaning, residents are awaiting repairs to damaged wire-mesh fencing along sectors 21-22 and sectors 22-23 roads and construction of a concrete pavement around the Shalapur T-point — works that have been pending for nearly three years.“Desilting the drain is a relatively small intervention that could be completed within days but would significantly reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. Any delays in executing the work could leave residents facing avoidable hardship during the rainy season,” said RWA general secretary KL Sharma, adding that they are no longer seeking assurances but timely action.Meanwhile, a GMDA official said, “We are already taking up desilting of surface drains and removal of debris across the city as part of pre-monsoon preparedness. If any portion of the drain in Sector 21 has been left out, our team will inspect the site and take up the desilting work on priority. We will ensure that the pending stretch is cleaned at the earliest to facilitate smooth stormwater flow during the monsoon.”
