Surat: Swati Desai, deputy municipal commissioner (DyMC) of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), has withdrawn her resignation nearly 10 days after submitting it, citing health and personal reasons. Her resignation was not approved by municipal commissioner Nagrajan M, which allowed Desai to withdraw her papers. The sudden move by the young officer had created ripples within the SMC, particularly as several officers have resigned abruptly in recent years before completing their tenure.Although she was relieved of her responsibilities in the Smart City cell, Desai continued to head the accounts department and served as the zonal head of South Zone A (Udhna).Desai has had a 20-year career with the SMC, beginning as a clerk. While in service, she pursued further education, qualifying as a company secretary and earning degrees in MCom and MBA.After a decade in clerical service, she was appointed secretary in 2017 and was later selected as DyMC.She also played a key role in the recent launch of SMC’s Rs 200 crore green bond, overseeing the process from securing necessary certifications and approvals to ensuring meticulous execution.Despite repeated attempts, Desai was unavailable for comment.
