Gurgaon: The city is among Haryana’s biggest dengue hotspots this season.Jhajjar and the city have accounted for more than a third of the 147 cases reported across the state so far. Across Haryana, 87 of the 147 cumulative cases have been reported by govt hospitals and 60 by private hospitals.According to the latest state vector-borne disease bulletin, Jhajjar has reported the highest number of cases at 28, followed by the city with 24. Together, the two districts account for 52 cases, or about 35% of the state’s total.The state has so far reported no confirmed dengue deaths this year. Five patients were still admitted to hospitals as of Aug 20, while 57 patients who had required hospitalisation had been discharged. Another 85 cases were treated on an outpatient basis.According to experts, warm and humid weather over the past few weeks was favourable for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit the dengue virus. Commonly seen symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain and a characteristic skin rash.Doctors emphasised the need for taking preventive measures to slow the spread of infections. They recommend wearing full-sleeved clothes, using mosquito repellents and cleaning any pools of stagnant water from containers, coolers, etc.Associate director of internal medicine at CK Birla Hospital (Gurgaon) Dr Tushar Tayal told TOI, “The overall number of patients presenting with dengue remains within the expected range and we have not observed an unusual increase in the severity of illness. We will need to monitor the situation over the coming weeks to determine whether there is any sustained rise in cases or severity.”The 2026 tally is currently much lower than previous years. Haryana reported 2,626 dengue cases in 2025, 6,469 in 2024 and 8,083 in 2023.This year, Karnal, with 13 cases, is the third worst-affected district. Hisar, Rewari and Sonipat have reported nine cases each, while Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh and Panchkula have recorded seven each. Faridabad has reported six cases so far, while Fatehabad and Panipat have recorded four each. Yamunanagar has reported four cases and Jind and Rohtak have three each. Kurukshetra has two cases, while Ambala has one. Bhiwani, Kaithal, Nuh and Palwal have not reported any cases so far.
