Ludhiana: A small batch of 3,000-odd officials will be out in the district from Thursday to verify identity records for 26 lakh citizens, who must participate in this mandatory home check to stay on the voter list. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) aims to ensure complete voter accuracy. In the Ludhiana district alone, the mobilisation to audit the region’s electoral rolls includes 2,927 booth-level officers (BLOs), 292 supervisors, and 112 registration officials.Ludhiana currently has 26,83,999 registered voters, comprising 14,17,933 men, 12,65,931 women, and 135 third-gender citizens. Almost 76% of these voters have been mapped geographically.Under the month-long initiative, which runs until July 24, each booth officer is responsible for roughly 300 households and 1,200 voters. Personnel will visit every residence up to three times to distribute, collect, and verify pre-printed enumeration forms. They will also digitise the data, log online submissions, and identify voters who have died, duplicated entries, or moved.Election tehsildar Rajan Dhall has warned the public that cooperation is critical to maintaining democratic rights. He said: “Residents who fail to submit their enumeration forms after three official visits face being deleted from the voter registry.”The drive also targets new eligible voters. Individuals who reach voting age by Oct 1 will be provided with registration forms for inclusion. Depending on age and status, residents must provide self-attested supporting documents, such as birth certificates, passports, or specific govt records issued before July 1, 1987.Following the house-to-house phase, officials will complete the rationalisation of polling stations by July 24 and publish draft electoral rolls on Aug 3. A public claims and objections window will remain open until Sept 2, ahead of the publication of the final electoral rolls on Oct 1,.
