Nagpur: Gadchiroli, Vidarbha’s largest district by area, is facing a flood situation and a drought notification at the same time, though in different parts. The state govt has notified Gadchiroli and Chamorshi, two among its 12 talukas, as drought-hit for this kharif season, while heavy rain in neighbouring Chhattisgarh caused floods in Bhamragarh. The motorable distance from Chamorshi to Bhamragarh is about 150km.Collector Avishyant Panda pointed to the contrast. He said, “Today we have announced drought in two talukas of Gadchiroli and there is severe flooding in one taluka. One of a kind situation.”Panda directed drafting of ‘panchnamas’ immediately in both drought-notified talukas. Field teams will collect photographs and GPS coordinates of crop conditions and send a digital report to the state through the divisional commissioner.The district administration moved 525 people to safe places in Bhamragarh even as water began receding. The floods have not affected the two drought-notified talukas, where manual rain gauge stations recorded 23.1mm in Gadchiroli and 9mm in Chamorshi on Saturday, against a district average of 35.4 mm.
