Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said the Centre must look into the apprehensions raised by south Indian states over the possible injustice to them in the delimitation exercise.Revanth said an amicable formula was needed, warning that a delimitation exercise done on a population or pro-rata basis would result in injustice to the southern states. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should look into the issue before it becomes so huge that it would be difficult for anyone to solve.Addressing reporters at his residence , he said he would speak with the CMs of other states and that they would collectively decide the future course of action. He said one possible solution was increasing the number of Lok Sabha constituencies while maintaining the present ratio or gap between the number of LS seats in the north and south India. The CM said no new district could be created, nor could existing ones be abolished or boundaries redrawn, until March 31, 2027, as the Centre had frozen the boundaries till that date. He said the delimitation exercise would be taken up only after March 31, 2027 and, until then, neither any reorganisation of districts nor delimitation of constituencies nor abolition or addition of districts could be made.Revanth said the number of Lok Sabha and assembly seats would increase in Telangana only after the delimitation exercise was completed. He said the next election would be a crucial one as the Centre was likely to implement women’s reservation and go for ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOE) in 2029. As a result, the assembly polls in Telangana might not be held as per schedule in 2028 but could be held in 2029, the CM said.
