Hyderabad: Warning of far-reaching political consequences, deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said delimitation based solely on the 2011 population data, without factoring in caste census figures, could diminish the political weight of southern states and enable govt at the Centre to be formed without their adequate representation.He was speaking at the bicentenary celebrations of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at Ravindra Bharathi. He noted that southern states are at the forefront of social transformation and are collectively pressing for equitable policies, but alleged that the Centre has been reducing their share in tax revenues as part of a broader strategy to weaken them. Highlighting disparities in tax devolution, he said Telangana receives only 0.37 paise for every 1 contributed to the Centre. Tamil Nadu receives 0.29 paise and Kerala 0.61 paise, while Bihar gets 6.53 and Uttar Pradesh 2.17 for every 1 contributed. He cautioned that feudal forces are attempting to regroup in the state, fearing setbacks due to pro-people policies, and urged Bahujans to remain united. “This govt is committed to social justice and will stand firm despite challenges. The demand for a BC Sub-Plan is under consideration, similar to the already implemented SC and ST Sub-Plans,” he said.
