An assistant professor at Delhi University’s Shivaji College was found murdered in her Vasundhara Enclave apartment on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: A 49-year-old Delhi University assistant professor was found murdered inside her apartment in east Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday.The victim, identified as Debosmita Paul, taught at Shivaji College and lived alone in the apartment, police said.According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar, police received a PCR call around 2.35pm from the victim’s sister, who reported that Paul had been found dead inside her flat.The caller, Devarati Paul, told police that her sister had not been answering repeated phone calls since the morning. Growing concerned, she went to the apartment and found it locked from the outside. Suspecting something was wrong, she broke open the lock and entered the flat, where she discovered her sister’s body and alerted police.A police team, along with forensic and crime scene experts, reached the spot and conducted a detailed examination of the apartment. Cops collected forensic evidence and documented the scene through photographs and videography.The body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received.Police have registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at New Ashok Nagar police station.Multiple teams have been formed to identify and arrest those responsible. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, the victim’s recent movements and contacts, and other possible leads. (With agency inputs)
