The university said it has crossed the milestone of 1,000 PhD graduates and secured nearly 40 patents during the past year.

New Delhi: Delhi Technological University (DTU) has announced a series of new academic programmes, research initiatives and industry collaborations, including integrated undergraduate-postgraduate courses in Data Science and Applied Statistics, a joint degree pathway with the University of Houston, and plans to introduce a BTech programme in Quantum Technology.

The announcements were made during the university’s annual press conference as DTU marked 85 years since its establishment.

From the 2026-27 academic session, DTU will introduce integrated BSc-MSc programmes in Data Science and Applied Statistics. The university will also launch a 4+1 Accelerated BTech-MS programme in collaboration with the University of Houston, allowing students to complete their BTech at DTU before pursuing a master’s degree in the US, subject to admission requirements.

The university also announced a Double Major Track in Economics for BTech students from the 2026-27 academic session, combining engineering with subjects such as economics of artificial intelligence, game theory and machine learning for economics.

Among its future academic plans, DTU said it intends to introduce BTech programmes in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from 2026-27, followed by Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) and Quantum Technology from the 2027-28 academic session, subject to regulatory approvals.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Prateek Sharma said the initiatives align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by promoting interdisciplinary education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

To strengthen research infrastructure, DTU announced the establishment of an undergraduate laboratory in Quantum Technologies with ₹1 crore funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST). It also inaugurated new facilities, including the Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST) Centre, the Siddharth Research and Tribology Centre, and the Yogi Goswami Clean Energy Laboratory.

The university said it has crossed the milestone of 1,000 PhD graduates and secured nearly 40 patents during the past year. It also received research funding from agencies including ANRF, MeitY, DRDO and ISRO.

On the innovation front, DTU said startups incubated by its Innovation and Incubation Foundation continued to gain national recognition. Startups AllSecureX and Heuronics were among the top six winners at the Delhi Startup Yuva Festival, receiving ₹10 lakh each, while NEMA-AI featured in the Forbes India Top 100 Startups list.

The university also signed memoranda of understanding with organisations including the Indian Army, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), Bajaj Auto Ltd., the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) and the GRIHA Council to collaborate on research, skill development and technology innovation.

Among the upcoming initiatives, DTU said it plans to launch a Rural Technology and Community Engagement Programme to develop engineering solutions for rural communities, alongside new centres focusing on defence technologies, artificial intelligence and sports research.
