NEW DELHI: More than 31.6 lakh registered voters in Delhi who have been served notices under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) can respond online or offline to ensure their names are not deleted from the final electoral roll.The notice tells voters why their names have been flagged and where they need to appear, while the Election Commission has provided multiple options to submit supporting documents before the deadline mentioned in the notice.The first step for voters who receive an SIR notice is to check the details carefully.The notice carries the reference number, name and EPIC number of the voter, assembly constituency, part and serial number, the reason for the notice, and the date, time and place for appearing before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).Voters then need to collect relevant documents and submit self-attested copies. The Election Commission has provided an indicative list of 12 categories of documents, though the list is not exhaustive.These include government or PSU employee or pensioner ID/PPO; documents issued in India before July 1, 1987 by government departments, local authorities, banks, post offices, LIC or PSUs; birth certificate; passport; matriculation or educational certificate; permanent residence certificate; forest rights certificate; SC/ST/OBC or other caste certificate; NRC document, where applicable; family register; government land or house allotment certificate; and Aadhaar, subject to the ECI’s specific directions.
How to respond online
Voters can submit their documents through voters.eci.gov.in.They need to select the facility for submitting documents against the SIR notice, verify their registered mobile number through OTP/captcha, enter the notice reference number, upload the relevant documents and submit the response before the deadline mentioned in the notice.
How to respond offline
Voters can also submit the required documents to their Booth Level Officer (BLO). The BLO’s name and contact number are mentioned in the notice.The documents can alternatively be submitted to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer/Electoral Registration Officer or at the designated desk of the DM office. Voters should keep proof of submission for their records.
What happens if you miss the deadline?
The response has to be submitted before the date mentioned in the notice. Those facing difficulty in responding can contact their BLO or use the ECINET app to seek assistance or book a call.The notice also warns that the documents submitted should support the declarations made by the voter.False declarations or forged or fabricated documents can lead to action under applicable law.
Why have SIR notices been issued?
The notices are being issued to unlinked electors, whose names could not be linked with the electoral roll of the last SIR, and in logical discrepancy cases, including name mismatches and unusual age differences between voters and their parents or siblings.The deadline for disposal of notices is October 29.
