NEW DELHI: Delhi Police is using footage from its network of AI-enabled cameras to identify people allegedly involved in the violence during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest march, with investigators saying those found responsible for attacking police personnel and damaging public property will face action.Police sources said the artificial intelligence-based surveillance system is analysing footage from the extensive network of CCTV cameras installed across the New Delhi district.“These AI cameras will help police identify those who were involved in clashes with the police, damaging government vehicles and attacking police personnel. Their criminal records will be checked using the police database and they will be arrested,” the source said.The source added that people who did not participate in any violence had nothing to fear.Appealing to the public to cooperate with the investigation, police said citizens could share information about those involved in the clashes and assured them that their identities would remain confidential.“There is a sea of CCTV cameras installed in New Delhi. Every person found to be involved in the clashes will be identified, their criminal records will be verified and they will be brought to justice,” another police officer said, requesting anonymity.Police said 10 FIRs have so far been registered in connection with the violence.According to the breakup provided by Delhi Police, four FIRs have been registered at Parliament Street police station, three at Connaught Place police station, and one each at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba and Kartavya Path police stations.The cases include an FIR filed by a Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel who was allegedly assaulted by protesters.A video of the incident had gone viral on social media.Police said the offences under investigation include allegations of rioting, assault on public servants, obstruction of government duty, criminal conspiracy, damage to public property, as well as provisions of the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of arrests made in the case.Investigators are also examining videos shared on social media and recordings captured by police personnel deployed during the protest to reconstruct the sequence of events.Police have repeatedly appealed to protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to maintain peace, avoid rumours and refrain from circulating unverified information online.Senior officers said the investigation is progressing on multiple fronts and that both digital and physical evidence are being scientifically analysed.“The investigation is underway and every piece of digital and physical evidence is being examined carefully. Action will be taken strictly on the basis of evidence,” said the senior police officer.Police said forensic examination of digital evidence, including videos, photographs and chats, is underway and more suspects may be identified as the probe progresses.The clashes broke out on Monday when protesters led by the CJP attempted to march towards Parliament and were stopped by security personnel, triggering confrontations in areas around Parliament Street, Connaught Place and adjoining roads.According to police, protesters tried to breach barricades erected to stop them from heading towards Parliament, leading to clashes and stone-pelting.Delhi Police said more than 60 protesters and 118 police personnel were injured in the violence, while 15 to 20 government vehicles, including police vehicles, were damaged.Security has since been tightened across the New Delhi district, with additional deployments of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel at key intersections, government buildings and other sensitive locations.As the probe advances, more people may be identified, police said, adding that the police are conducting forensic examination of digital evidence, including video clips, chats and photographs, to strengthen the investigation.The clashes broke out on Monday when protesters led by CJP attempting to march towards the Parliament were stopped by security personnel, triggering violent confrontations at multiple locations, including areas around Parliament Street, Connaught Place and adjoining roads.According to the police, protesters allegedly tried to breach barricades erected to prevent them from moving towards the Parliament.As the crowd pushed against the barricades, confrontations escalated, leading to stone-pelting.More than 60 protesters and 118 police personnel were injured in the violence, the police said, adding that more than 15 to 20 government vehicles, including police vehicles, were damaged during the violence.Following the incident, security was strengthened across the New Delhi district, with additional deployments of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel at key intersections, government buildings and sensitive locations.(With PTI inputs)
