NEW DELHI: A delivery boy’s sudden splurge on an iphone phone and new clothes, followed by plans to buy a motorcycle worth around Rs 3 lakh, helped Delhi Police crack a blind theft case and recover stolen gold, silver jewellery and cash, news agency PTI reported.The accused, Deepak, 20, and his alleged associate Gunjan, 30, were arrested in connection with the theft at a residence in Maidan Garhi, police said.As per the PTI report, an e-FIR was registered on August 31, following which police launched an investigation. During the probe, police on September 14 received information about a delivery worker, later identified as Deepak, who had recently purchased an iPhone 15 and new clothes.“He was also allegedly planning to buy a Royal Enfield motorcycle costing around Rs 3 lakh,” deputy commissioner of police (South) Anant Mittal said in a statement.Police subsequently raided Deepak’s rented accommodation and apprehended him. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed that he had entered the complainant’s house through the roof and stolen a purse containing cash and a key to an almirah.Using the key, he allegedly opened the almirah and stole gold and silver articles along with cash, police said.The stolen property was later traced to Gunjan, who allegedly helped dispose of the gold through a jeweller in Mehrauli, PTI reported.Police recovered an iPhone 15, Rs 27,500 in cash, seven pairs of silver anklets, five pairs of silver toe rings and a silver hand bracelet or bangle from Deepak, the DCP said.From Gunjan, police recovered around 1kg of silver articles and 103g of gold articles. Police also traced financial proceeds linked to the alleged disposal of the stolen jewellery, including a cheque for Rs 2.58 lakh.The suspected proceeds in a bank account were frozen, while an FD of Rs 2 lakh created from the cheque amount was also recovered, police said.(With agency inputs)
