NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters received a hoax bomb threat on Wednesday after an email warned of an explosion in the mayor’s office. According to sources, the email was received at around 7.30am and was addressed to multiple senior officials, including the mayor, deputy mayor and the commissioner. The message claimed that a blast would take place in the mayor’s office at 2.11pm. It included phrases such as “Bomb blast in Mayor Office Delhi @2:11” and threats that “no one can be saved”. The email also contained inflammatory and separatist messaging, including references to “Khalistan” and threats directed at national leaders. Several names were mentioned in the message. Following the threat, security agencies were alerted and standard protocols were initiated. The premises were thoroughly checked and security was heightened as a precautionary measure. A coordinated operation was carried out, involving Delhi Police bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams, who conducted extensive searches. Police officials later confirmed that the threat was a hoax, as no suspicious object was found during the search. An investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Cyber teams are examining technical details, including the email ID and server trail. The incident comes shortly after a recent case in which a 47-year-old unemployed man, Srinivas alias Louis, was arrested in Mysuru for allegedly sending hoax bomb threat emails to hundreds of schools, courts and other institutions in Delhi, Karnataka and other parts of the country. He is said to have admitted to targeting 900 to 1,000 institutions through such emails.
