Bengaluru: City police have booked a Delhi-based man for allegedly soliciting money from passengers at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) by claiming he had missed his flight and lacked money to continue his journey. The 37-year-old man, identified as Ameen of south Delhi, claims to be a businessman. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel detained him Friday evening following complaints from passengers that he was harassing people near the arrival gate for money. He was handed over to KIA police later.Ameen initially repeated his story but confessed when asked to produce the ticket for the flight he claimed to have missed. His travel history showed he had arrived at KIA from Mumbai on Sept 30 night and flown to Chennai on Oct 3 morning.“CISF personnel received complaints from passengers and, after questioning him briefly, handed him over to us. We booked a non-cognisable case against him for misleading the public before letting him off,” a police source said.Ameen is said to have sought between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from passengers emerging from the arrival gate. His fluent English and confident manner convinced some people to believe his story. “He claimed to have collected around Rs 3,000 from different people before he was caught. However, many passengers he approached refused to help him,” the cop said.
