NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 45-year-old wife with a pair of scissors over suspicions of an extramarital relationship at their home in northeast Delhi’s Gautampuri, police said Sunday.The accused, identified as Saleem, 52, was apprehended from near Moradabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh.According to police, the incident came to light on Thursday when Seelampur police received information about a woman lying injured inside a house in Gautampuri. Officers reached the spot and found the woman in a pool of blood with grievous injuries. She was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. During the initial inquiry, Saleem was found missing from the house immediately after the incident, making him the prime suspect, police said.“A team analysed CCTV footage, examined technical evidence, verified human intelligence inputs and tracked the accused’s movements across multiple locations,” said Additional DCP (northeast) Sandeep Lamba.Police found that Saleem travelled through Anand Vihar, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Lucknow in an alleged attempt to evade arrest before returning towards Moradabad, where he was apprehended.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. He told cops that he suspected his wife, who had previously worked at a garment factory, of having an extramarital relationship with a co-worker. The suspicion had led to frequent domestic disputes between the couple.On the day of the incident, the couple allegedly had another argument over the issue. Police said Saleem, in a fit of rage, attacked his wife with a pair of scissors, inflicting multiple injuries. Believing she had died, he allegedly locked the house and fled.Police have seized the alleged weapon of offence, a pair of scissors. Saleem has no previous criminal record.
