New Delhi: Expressing concern over the assault of a serving Army officer and his family in Vasant Enclave, lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday directed police to provide security to the victims and ensure swift action against the accused.“Deeply concerned by the incident in Vasant Enclave involving the assault on a serving brigadier of Indian Army, his wife and son, a 23-year-old IIT Delhi graduate. I have personally spoken with (the) brigadier… to inquire about the incident and their well-being,” LG posted on X early in the day, adding that he also directed the police commissioner and the DCP “to ensure a thorough and swift investigation, leading to immediate and appropriate action against those responsible”.He also asked Delhi Police to provide full security to the officer and his family. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and upholding the rule of law,” LG wrote.Following the arrests of two suspects allegedly seen in the car, LG appreciated the “much needed swift action” by police in another post in the evening. “With two key accused now apprehended and the vehicle seized, the investigation must be fast-tracked to ensure all accomplices are brought to justice,” he posted.The 52-year-old Army officer and his son were injured after being assaulted, allegedly by a group of men, in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on Saturday night after the two had objected to a couple of men drinking inside a parked car near their residence. The family has accused police of inaction at the spot and harassment thereafter.A preliminary inquiry found lapses on the part of the investigating inspector, who has since been sent to the district lines, police said. An FIR has been registered at Vasant Vihar police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and others.
