Noida: Police have arrested a Delhi-based driver for allegedly strangling a woman to death with her scarf after a financial dispute and dumping her body on a service road in Sector 129. The victim, identified as Kavita alias Kavya, was found dead on Monday on the service road in front of Gulshan Mall. Kavita, believed to be a domestic worker, lived on Kali Mandir Road in Kalika Dham in Delhi with her husband Shankar, a hospital cleaner, and their daughter. According to police, she had recently come in contact with Vicky Mathur, a car driver from Ganesh Nagar Complex in east Delhi, and the two had grown close over the past 15–20 days. Her communication with Mathur had led to frequent arguments between her and her husband. A day before the incident, Kavita and Shankar had a quarrel over the issue and called 112. Police intervened and counselled the couple before leaving. Later, Kavita left home carrying Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and went to meet Mathur.Police said the two met and consumed alcohol, during which an argument broke out over marriage. Kavita allegedly proposed to Mathur and offered him the money if he married her, but he refused, saying he was already married. During the altercation, Mathur allegedly strangled her with her scarf, took the cash and her bag, and fled. According to additional DCP Manisha Singh, the murder took place in Delhi, after which the accused transported the body and dumped it on the service road near Sector 129 in Noida. On March 2, Expressway police received information about a woman’s body lying on the road and reached the spot, took the body into custody and began an investigation. Police later traced the victim’s identity and informed her family. Based on a complaint by her husband, a case was registered and Mathur was arrested. The car used in the crime and Rs 3.02 lakh in cash were recovered from him.
