Ahmedabad: The delayed PhD admission process at Gujarat University has received a relatively low response, with around 1,700 students registering so far. GU has extended the registration deadline by one day, but the number of applicants remains significantly lower than last year.Sources said more than 2,500 students had registered for PhD admissions at GU last year. The sharp decline this year is being attributed primarily to the delay in starting the admission process. While several other universities have already completed their PhD admissions, GU is still accepting registrations. The university had initially faced uncertainty over the process due to technical issues related to the Samarth portal. It then decided to conduct the process independently and announced registration from Aug 25 to Sep 7. The entrance exam is scheduled to be held on Sep 26, from noon to 2 pm.Earlier, the university had announced 727 PhD seats across various subjects. Accountancy had the highest number of vacancies, with 56 seats.Sources said many students who were interested in pursuing PhD studies had already secured admissions to other universities because of the delay at Gujarat University.
