Chennai: Passengers at Tiruvallur railway station face difficulty in locating their compartment, as digital coach guidance displays (CGDs) have been non-functional for more than a month, despite the station being a major rail hub on the Chennai–Tirupati line. Several important trains, including the Tirupati Express, Kovai Superfast Express and Shatabdi Express, halt here for only one to two minutes. Without functioning coach indicator boards, passengers struggle to identify their reserved compartments within the short halt time.

“The issue has more serious since Jan 26, 2026, after the Chennai–Bengaluru double decker express, was given a stoppage at Tiruvallur. In the absence of digital guidance displays, passengers are forced to run along the platform to locate their coaches,” said K Bhaskar, a former DRUCC member.Commuters fear that the problem will aggravate once LHB coaches are introduced in all trains. “A 24-coach ICF train is almost the same length as a 22-coach LHB train. So, LHB trains will stop beyond the expected point, confusing passengers.” he said.Despite many attempts, divisional railway manager Shailendra Singh was unavailable for comment.
